I know, corny title, but I couldn’t help myself. We recently celebrated the 30th Birthday of our niece by heading out to a picnic spot which has wood fuelled BBQs right alongside the Koalas and Kangaroos.
Molly was in charge of the Damper and marshmallows. As with all things she took the job seriously and in true Scout style printed off recipes with a history of Damper to give to the attendees. For those of you that don’t know, damper is a scone-like mixture which can be cooked in a Dutch oven in the coals of a dampened down fire or wrapped around sticks and held over the heat. Once cooked, pull them off the stick and fill with jam.
What I learned; THE STICK YOU USE SHOULD BE LONG ENOUGH THAT YOU DON’T BURN YOUR FINGERS AS YOU HOLD IT OVER THE FIRE!
It was a collective effort, we all know boys are attracted to a BBQ like a bull to a herd of cows. Lulu also found time to do a bit of cooking. She spent the rest of her time down in a small wooded area, climbing trees, decorating sticks with vine leaves and I am sure, scaring the snakes into leaving home.
A good day out was had by all. Except the snakes of course.
